Blackwave GmbH is an aerospace manufacturer specializing in composite-overwrapped pressure vessels, commonly abbreviated COPVs, for launch vehicles and satellites.[1] Public reporting in 2026 described the German company as maintaining a temporary site at Proto-Town while preparing a manufacturing facility in San Antonio.[2]
COPVs are used aboard SpaceX launch vehicles, and Blackwave is backed by an investment firm whose founding partner previously held leadership roles at SpaceX. However, the public sources reviewed do not confirm that SpaceX is a Blackwave customer or that the companies have a direct commercial relationship.
